The San Diego Association of Science Writers (SANDSWA) is pleased to announce that Swetha Kasetty Ramakrishnan has received the 2024 SANDSWA Travel Grant. This $500 grant will help fund Ramakrishnan’s trip to Raleigh, NC, this fall for the ScienceWriters 2024 conference, hosted by the National Association of Science Writers (NASW) and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW).
“The SANDSWA Travel Grant offers a fantastic chance to kick start my career in science writing,” says Ramakrishnan. “I am very excited and grateful to SANDSWA.”
Ramakrishnan is currently transitioning from a career as a bench scientist into the field of science communications. She says her goal is to gain writing experience as she works to make science more interesting and approachable for all.
“The NASW meeting will provide me, a researcher, a different perspective to science communication,” says Ramakrishnan. “Undoubtedly, it’s also an excellent way to network and meet new people.”
